Brasserie de Vézelay

PUR MALT, PURE BIÈRE

Our story

Discover the history of the Brewery :
Marc Neyret, inspired by a love for the art of brewing, travelled the world in 2010 researching the finest beers. His meeting with Stefan Peter Stadler, a Bavarian Master Brewer working in Denmark would prove decisive. Sharing a common vision to produce a range of top quality beers, they decided to create their own Brewery within the Morvan region of France. They chose a location at the foot of the Basilica of Vézelay that is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site and it is from there Marc and Stefan would produce their beer by traditional methods and the strictest of control. The “Law of Purity of Beer” was established in Bavaria in the year of 1516. It defined the ingredients allowed in a Bavarian beer of high quality as only water, malted grain and hops. It is this definition that the Brasserie de Vézelay has followed rigorously, to which it has added that all ingredients must be organic (ECOCERT certified). From this base the Brewery has developed it’s range of beers and extended distribution throughout Burgundy into Paris and numerous regions of France. Vézelay beers are also sold in Switzerland, Netherlands and even as far as Japan. In late 2019, the Brasserie de Vézelay joined the group “Fabulous Brasseurs de France”, an alliance of French breweries promoting the merits of outstanding artisanal brewers and winners of many awards in competitions in France and abroad.

Our craft Beers

The Brasserie de Vézelay produces pure malt, organic beers using traditional methods that respect the very strict Bavarian quality standards. Consequently, the beers have no added sugar or other additives. Highly fermented and neither filtered nor pasteurised, the beer preserves all the flavours of malt and hops.

Quality,
a value very important for us

QUALITY

The Brasserie de Vézelay
is totally independent and produces organic beers that respect the Bavarian purity law passed in 1516.

Not wishing to make concessions to the quality of our beers, the brewery chooses to work with local suppliers. For example, the water used comes from a natural source that supplies the village. The left-over cereals, rather than being sent to waste, are given to local farmers based near the brewery as feed for their animals.

Conscious of offering quality products to discerning customers, the brewery has won 14 awards at the annual Concours Agricole held in Paris and 25 at the World beer awards: prestigious recognition of the work and diligence of the brewery in the quality of the beers it has produced.

The Brasserie de Vézelay is engaged in sustainable development and respect for the environment. As well as a desire to produce the very best for the consumer, mutual partnerships and exchange of ideas and knowledge are important factors in producing our beers. This desire for excellence, the DNA of the brewery, sees itself rewarded by numerous certifications given to it.
