Brewed solely with the finest of French produce : malted barley from Burgundy and hops from Alsace. “La French Pale Ale” is a rounded, balanced beer with a “french elegant touch” and with hints of citrus fruit. Our Blonde, of the type US Pale Ale is dry, bitter and “moreish” from the first mouthful. La French Pale Ale is delicate, perfumed and a pleasure to drink.

I.B.U. : International Bitterness Unit

The value IBU (International Bitterness Unit) is given as an indication of the bitterness of a beer. The higher the number, the more bitter the beer will taste. This bitterness is imparted by the amount and variety of the hops used in fermentation and conditioning.

COLOUR :

A beer's colour derives from the types of malt used in the process: the darker the malt, the deeper the colour of the beer. A darker colour does not necessarily mean a more bitter beer.

CATEGORY :

Low fermentation beer is generally known as Lager or Pils, whereas high fermentation beer is known as ale. Both terms are a reference to the temperature used in the fermentation process. Clearly beer brewed at low temperature will take longer to produce.

DEGREE OF ALCOHOL :

Alcohol is produced from sugars in the malt transformed by the yeast into alcohol during the brewing process. More is the sugar in the malt, the higher is the level of alcohol in the finished beer.
Unlike many brewers, Brasserie de Vézelay uses only pure malt and does not add sugar to the brew.

ORGANIC :

All our beers are certified "organic" by the organisation ECOCERT since the creation of the Brewery in 2012.

GLUTEN FREE :

We offer a complete range of gluten free ales: pale, amber, lager, brown and wheat beer. This is a conscious effort on our part to produce an organic beer for beer lovers with gluten intolerance.

THE PURITY LAW :

Our beer respects scrupulously the “Reinheitsgebot” - decree on the purity of the beer passed in 1516 in Bavaria. It states that the only authorised ingredients are water, malted grains and hops. There was no mention of yeast as little or no knowledge existed at that time. No sugar or additives of any sort are added and, neither filtered nor pasteurised, our high fermentation beers retain all the flavours of the pure malted grains and hops.
